Some people don’t pay much attention to cavities in their children’s baby teeth. After all, the teeth fall out anyways – why bother taking care of them?
Well, untreated cavities can lead to tooth decay in permanent teeth, as well as other oral health issues that can be painful – and costly – for you and your children.
So with that in mind, let’s take a look at a few tips to help you improve your kids’ oral health.
Introduce a healthy diet
Diet plays a huge role not only in the overall well-being of your child, but also in their oral health. Without proper nutrients, kids’ teeth and gums won’t have enough good bacteria to fight off the bad bacteria present in plaque. Buildup in plaque can lead to gingivitis, which is a mild form of gum disease.
Brush the tongue
How often do you forget to brush your tongue? A lot of the bad bacteria in your mouth resides on your tongue. Brushing it obviously helps rid the mouth of that disease-causing stuff, so remind your children to do the same.
Schedule regular dental visits
While you can certainly do a lot at home to help bolster the oral health of your children, it’s recommended that you schedule regular dental visits from an early age for your kids. This establishes the importance of dental visits into their psyche at an early age, and helps cement healthy oral habits for the rest of their lives.
