Oral Hygiene: How to Avoid Tooth Brushing Mistakes

Posted .

Your smile needs to be brushed regularly. This is an important part of your oral hygiene routine. However, it’s only helpful if it’s the proper and most effective brushing technique possible. Unfortunately, many people make tooth brushing mistakes. To help you avoid making the same mistakes, Dr. Ryan Bailey and our dental team have some tooth brushing tips.

First, use the right oral hygiene tools when cleaning your smile. As you brush, use a soft-bristled toothbrush that is the right size and shape for your mouth. Having a brush like this can help you meticulously clean your teeth and keep your gums in top-notch condition. It can also help you clean every space in your mouth. Please use fluoride toothpaste while you brush.

Second, brush for two minutes twice each day. Brushing less than this can encourage bacteria to create dental issues, and brushing more than this can damage your oral bones and tissues. So, please remember to brush for two minutes when you wake up and before you go to bed. If you need to, set a timer so you know how long to scrub.

Third, care for your toothbrush regularly. Caring for your brush will allow it to care for you. All you need to do is rinse it with water after you are done using it. After it’s rinsed, place it upright in an area where it can properly dry. Make sure you replace your toothbrush when the bristles fray or every 3-4 months.
